Milton Keynes(MK) was formally designated as a new Town in January 1967,incorporating the existing towns of Bletchley, Wolverton and Stony Stratford, taking its name from the existing village of Milton Keynes. 

MK was initially developed by the Milton Keynes Development Corporation, which was wound up in 1992 and now the administrative authority is the Unitary Council of Milton Keynes Borough.

MK, located about 45 miles north-west of London and is served by the M1 motorway, the MK to London mainline and the Grand Union Canal.

Since its designation in 1967, MK has seen rapid and steady growth, and with this physical growth, so has the population, rising from circa 53,000 in 1967 to estimates at 2013 of 255.700, with the projections for further growth.
