Pioneering ‘Lets Rent Scheme’ in Dunstable in full swing

Kieron from Lenwell Dunstable here; just had a long chat with one of the great members of staff from the Lets Rent Scheme at Central Bedfordshire Council.

The Lets Rent scheme is a new way for housing benefit tenants to find homes from within the private rental sector, and Lenwell are one of only two companies working with the Central Beds team on this project in Dunstable.

Mr Shahid Akhtar from the Lets Rent team at Central Bedfordshire Council commented “The Lets Rent Scheme is a fantastic scheme that has allowed both the team at the council and specialist approved agents to work closely together.  It has enabled us to meet the needs of our tenants a lot quicker, with most settled into their new home within 14 days of viewing the property.”

As you can see from Mr Akhtar’s comments this is truly a great scheme for both landlords and tenants alike.

What a difference a year makes!!

I can’t believe that it is just over a year since Mary Portas the self styled ‘Mary Queen of Shops’ visited Dunstable and put the town on the map for all the wrong reasons; it feel like the time has flown by.

Following Mary’s comments on Dunstable, such as, this town is dead and there is nothing that can be done to save the town, I think it would be a great idea for her to come back and visit us again.

Maybe it was the wake-up call we needed, but since then we have definitely seen the fighting spirit of a town that has picked itself up, dusted itself off and decided that there is life in the old place after all.

There are campaigns running with committees of local people striving to get the best for Dunstable such as the I Love Dunstable campaign, a campaign which is very close to the heart of all of us at Lenwell Property Services and something we have supported since its inception.

In the recent months we have seen shops such as a ladies boutique, a wedding dress designer and a tropical fish store opening. Plus in the past couple of days I noticed a furniture store is opening in one of the larger units in town and a beauty salon opening in another town centre location.

Make no mistake, Dunstable is far from dead and I can honestly say I feel like the sun is shinning on us once again.

Let’s just hope this continues and the town gets back to the busy market town it used to be.
